Mallorca Markets (Mercedillos)

When you are in Mallorca, whatever the day of the week, you are sure to be only a few miles away from one of Mallorca's vibrant and charming markets.

Some are authentic and rural affairs selling locally made cheese, locally grown vegtables and island handicrafts whilst others are less traditional, but just as interesting. They sell less local produce and more clothing a tourist trinkets. As a rule of thumb, the closer that you are to a major resort, the less authentic an experience you will have, but don't let this put you off as at all markets on Mallorca you find at least a touch of local colour.

The consensus on the best market on Mallorca seems to be the agricultural market at Sineu, near Inca, held every wednesday. This market is big, offers the visitor a great, traditional Mallorcan experience and is the one to go for if you only visit one.

Most markets start at around 8am and finish in the early afternoon. They get busy quickly and shut up and vanish quickly so get there as early as possible! Happy shopping!
