You can´t miss the Tramuntana mountains in Mallorca, they run, rising
like a fin, the length of Mallorca's north coast from southwest northeast
and offer some of the most spectacular scenery on the island. The Serra
de Tramuntana, named after the Mallorcan northern wind, run for almost
90 km from Andratx at the southern end to Pollenca in the north. Sa Dragonera,
the imposing island near Sant Elm marks the Southernmost point of the
Tramuntana range with Cap de Formentor in the north. The highest mountains
in the range are Puig Major at 1,445m (4660 feet) and Puig Massanella
at 1,349m (4425 feet).
The Tramuntana soak up the vast majority of the rain on Mallorca and
in the winter, as can be seen in the photo, are often dusted with snow!
The best way to experience the range is obviously on foot, exploring the
many paths though the pine trees and seemingly abandoned fincas. Visit

overview of hiking options in the Tramuntana range. You can also experience
some breathtaking views of Mallorca visiting the mountains by car or bike,
if you have the stamina, with the R710 from Andratx to Pollenca being
considered the most scenic route on Mallorca. Another lovely dive or cycle,
if not a little hairy, is the C710 route from Soller to Lluc. This road
travels roughly between Puig Major and Massanella, passing through miryiad
tunnels and gorges through seemingly endless left and right hairpin bends.
